Best Fire Attackers — Pokemon GO

Top 30 Fire-type raid attackers ranked by DPS with best movesets and tier rankings.

Super effective vs: Bug type Bug Grass type Grass Ice type Ice Steel type Steel

The Fire-type attacker tier list ranks the top 30 Pokemon by raid DPS in 2026. Use Fire-type attackers against Bug, Grass, Ice, Steel-type raid bosses. Shadow Pokemon deal 20% more damage, while Mega evolutions boost the entire raid team.

Rankings are calculated by simulating every possible fast and charged move combination for each Pokemon at level 40 against a generic Tier 5 raid boss. We measure DPS (Damage Per Second), TDO (Total Damage Output before fainting), and eDPS (a composite metric that balances raw damage with survivability). The final ranking weighs type-specific DPS at 70% and overall DPS at 30%, so Pokemon with strong same-type moves are prioritized while off-type coverage is still rewarded.

How We Calculate Raid DPS Rankings

Our raid attacker rankings simulate actual battle performance using Pokemon GO's damage formula. Here's how each metric is computed:

DPS — Damage Per Second

Calculated using the Pokemon GO damage formula: floor(0.5 × Power × Atk/Def × STAB) + 1. We simulate a full attack cycle (enough fast moves to charge one charged move) and divide total damage by cycle time. Higher DPS means faster raid clears.

TDO — Total Damage Output

Total damage dealt before fainting, calculated as DPS × Time Alive. Survival time is based on the Pokemon's effective HP and the boss's estimated damage output. TDO rewards bulky Pokemon that stay in the fight longer and need fewer revives.

eDPS — Effective DPS

A composite metric: (DPS³ × TDO)0.25. This balances raw speed with durability — a glass cannon with sky-high DPS but terrible TDO gets penalized, while a tanky attacker that's too slow also won't rank well. eDPS identifies the best all-round raiders.

STAB & Move Selection

Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) adds a 1.2× multiplier when a move's type matches the Pokemon's type. At least one move must be Fire-type to qualify. We test every fast + charged combination and select the one with the highest ranking score.

Shadow & Mega Variants

Shadow Pokemon receive a 20% Attack boost with a ~17% Defense penalty, making them high-DPS glass cannons. Mega Pokemon are evaluated with their boosted base stats. Both variants are ranked alongside regular forms so you can compare them directly.

Tier Assignment

Pokemon are placed into tiers based on how their DPS compares to the #1 attacker:

S-Tier: Top 5% or Top 3 A-Tier: Top 15% or Top 8 B-Tier: Top 25% or Top 15 C-Tier: Top 35% or Top 22 D-Tier: Remaining

All simulations use level 40 stats (CPM 0.7903) against a generic Tier 5 raid boss with 160 effective Defense. Rankings are recalculated daily to reflect the latest move updates and balance changes.

Fire Type in Pokemon GO — Overview

Fire-type Pokemon GO offers some of the most explosive raid DPS in the game, with multiple legendaries and Mega Evolutions sitting at the top of the rankings. Fire moves deal super-effective damage to Grass, Bug, Steel, and Ice — covering four of the most common defensive typings in raids — making Fire a must-have type for any serious raid roster. Signature moves include Fire Blast, Overheat, Sacred Fire, V-create, and Blast Burn (the Community Day exclusive that makes Charizard, Typhlosion, Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar, Delphox, Incineroar, and Cinderace tier-relevant). Fire types are weak to Water, Rock, and Ground, so glass-cannon Fire attackers melt fast against the wrong matchup.

Top Fire Attackers Explained

The current top Fire attackers are Mega Charizard Y, Shadow Moltres, Reshiram, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Houndoom, with Shadow Entei and Shadow Charizard close behind. Mega Charizard Y’s Fire Spin and Blast Burn combo gives it the highest Fire DPS in the game outside of Shadow legendaries. Chandelure is the best non-Shadow, non-Mega Fire attacker thanks to Fire Spin and Overheat. Heatran sits in a unique tier as a Fire/Steel dual attacker that doubles as a Steel raid counter. Darmanitan, Volcarona, and Pyroar see fringe usage. For budget builds, Cinderace and Blaziken remain solid Community-Day-tuned picks.

Fire Attackers in PvP & GO Battle League

Fire types in PvP have to balance offensive pressure against their punishing Water/Rock/Ground weaknesses. Talonflame (Fire/Flying) is the standout Great League pick with Incinerate spam and Brave Bird closing power. Charizard sees Ultra League play with Dragon Breath and Blast Burn. Skeledirge (Fire/Ghost from Paldea) and Typhlosion-Hisui (Fire/Ghost) bring unique typing combos that flip the standard Fire matchup chart. In Master League, Reshiram, Ho-Oh, and Mega Charizard Y serve as flex picks. Magcargo (Fire/Rock) and Pyroar shine in limited cups. Carbink-counter pickers also reach for Fire types when Steel/Ice are projected.

Matchups, Weaknesses & When to Field Fire Attackers

Fire’s offensive coverage hits Grass (Tangrowth, Venusaur), Bug (Genesect, Volcarona), Steel (Metagross, Bastiodon, Excadrill), and Ice (Galarian Darmanitan, Glaceon, Mamoswine). However, every Fire attacker is 1.6× weak to Water, Rock, and Ground — and 2.56× when those moves are weather-boosted by Rain, Partly Cloudy (rocks), or Sunny (ironically buffs Fire too). Sunny weather gives Fire moves a 1.2× boost, making it the optimal weather for Fire raids. Avoid Fire attackers against Salamence, Tyranitar, Swampert, Garchomp, and Rhyperior, since they punish hard. Use Fire types as pure DPS attackers — they don’t survive long enough to act as bulky pivots in raids.

Community Day Picks & Notable Fire Investments

Fire is one of the most Community-Day-loaded types in the game. Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig, Fennekin, Litten, and Scorbunny have all received CD slots, each unlocking the iconic Blast Burn charged move on their final-stage starter. Litwick → Chandelure earned a CD weekend in 2024 along with Poltergeist. Moltres has had multiple Raid Days, the most recent unlocking Sky Attack and Burn Up as legacy moves. Reshiram’s Raid Day in 2025 unlocked Fusion Flare. Mega Houndoom and Mega Charizard X/Y are core Mega rotation picks for trainers grinding raid passes. Shadow Moltres and Shadow Entei sit at the top of the Shadow Fire tier list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the #1 ranked Fire-type attacker right now?

Based on our DPS simulations, Mega Blaziken currently ranks first among Fire-type attackers in Pokemon GO, followed by Mega Blaziken, Blacephalon, Mega Charizard Y. The full tier list above shows every viable Fire attacker with its optimal moveset, DPS, TDO, and eDPS values.

Which raid bosses should I use Fire attackers against?

Fire-type attacks deal super-effective damage to Bug, Grass, Ice, Steel-type Pokemon, so use Fire attackers when those types appear in 5-Star, Mega, Elite, or Primal raids. Always weather-check the boss before launching the raid to maximize damage with the appropriate weather boost.

What is the best Fire-type attacker in Pokemon GO?

Mega Charizard Y is the top Fire attacker thanks to Fire Spin, Blast Burn, and the Mega Attack multiplier. Shadow Moltres, Reshiram, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Houndoom are close behind. For non-Mega/non-Shadow rosters, Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat is the best pure Fire DPS available.

What is Fire weak against in Pokemon GO?

Fire types take 1.6× damage from Water, Rock, and Ground moves. Rock is especially punishing because most top Rock attackers (Rhyperior, Tyranitar, Rampardos) hit Fire/Flying duals like Charizard and Moltres for 2.56× damage. Use Fire types in Sunny weather to maximize their offensive output before they get knocked out.

Which Fire types learn Blast Burn?

Blast Burn is the Community Day exclusive charged move available on the final evolution of every Fire starter: Charizard, Typhlosion, Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar, Delphox, Incineroar, and Cinderace. It can also be unlocked outside Community Day with an Elite Charged TM. Blast Burn is what makes these starters viable raid attackers.

Is Reshiram good for raids?

Yes. Reshiram is the strongest non-Mega, non-Shadow Fire attacker in the game thanks to Fire Fang and Fusion Flare (or legacy Overheat). It is also a top Dragon attacker, doubling as a flex pick against both Fire-weak and Dragon-weak raid bosses, which makes it one of the best legendary investments for new trainers.

What weather boosts Fire-type moves?

Sunny weather (also called Clear weather) boosts Fire-type moves by 1.2× in Pokemon GO and increases the catch CP and IV floor of wild Fire spawns. Sunny weather is the optimal time to run Fire raids and to power-grind Fire Community Days for shiny families.
