The current top Fire attackers are Mega Charizard Y, Shadow Moltres, Reshiram, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Houndoom, with Shadow Entei and Shadow Charizard close behind. Mega Charizard Y’s Fire Spin and Blast Burn combo gives it the highest Fire DPS in the game outside of Shadow legendaries. Chandelure is the best non-Shadow, non-Mega Fire attacker thanks to Fire Spin and Overheat. Heatran sits in a unique tier as a Fire/Steel dual attacker that doubles as a Steel raid counter. Darmanitan, Volcarona, and Pyroar see fringe usage. For budget builds, Cinderace and Blaziken remain solid Community-Day-tuned picks.
Fire types in PvP have to balance offensive pressure against their punishing Water/Rock/Ground weaknesses. Talonflame (Fire/Flying) is the standout Great League pick with Incinerate spam and Brave Bird closing power. Charizard sees Ultra League play with Dragon Breath and Blast Burn. Skeledirge (Fire/Ghost from Paldea) and Typhlosion-Hisui (Fire/Ghost) bring unique typing combos that flip the standard Fire matchup chart. In Master League, Reshiram, Ho-Oh, and Mega Charizard Y serve as flex picks. Magcargo (Fire/Rock) and Pyroar shine in limited cups. Carbink-counter pickers also reach for Fire types when Steel/Ice are projected.
Fire’s offensive coverage hits Grass (Tangrowth, Venusaur), Bug (Genesect, Volcarona), Steel (Metagross, Bastiodon, Excadrill), and Ice (Galarian Darmanitan, Glaceon, Mamoswine). However, every Fire attacker is 1.6× weak to Water, Rock, and Ground — and 2.56× when those moves are weather-boosted by Rain, Partly Cloudy (rocks), or Sunny (ironically buffs Fire too). Sunny weather gives Fire moves a 1.2× boost, making it the optimal weather for Fire raids. Avoid Fire attackers against Salamence, Tyranitar, Swampert, Garchomp, and Rhyperior, since they punish hard. Use Fire types as pure DPS attackers — they don’t survive long enough to act as bulky pivots in raids.
Fire is one of the most Community-Day-loaded types in the game. Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig, Fennekin, Litten, and Scorbunny have all received CD slots, each unlocking the iconic Blast Burn charged move on their final-stage starter. Litwick → Chandelure earned a CD weekend in 2024 along with Poltergeist. Moltres has had multiple Raid Days, the most recent unlocking Sky Attack and Burn Up as legacy moves. Reshiram’s Raid Day in 2025 unlocked Fusion Flare. Mega Houndoom and Mega Charizard X/Y are core Mega rotation picks for trainers grinding raid passes. Shadow Moltres and Shadow Entei sit at the top of the Shadow Fire tier list.
