The strongest pure Normal attacker is Mega Lopunny, although its dual Fighting typing makes it more useful as a Fighting-class raider. Among non-Mega options, Slaking has the highest raw Attack stat in the game but its locked Yawn fast move cripples it, leaving Lickilicky and Smeargle (with sketched moves) as the best STAB picks. Shadow Ursaluna offers solid burst damage with Tackle and Frustration relearned. For mono-Normal raids — extremely rare, since few raid bosses are weak to Normal — most trainers default to Mega Lopunny, Lickilicky, or Glaceon’s Last Resort. Regigigas remains a meta non-factor in raids due to Slow Start halving its damage output.
Normal types thrive in PvP closers and anti-meta pivots. Wigglytuff, Diggersby, and Greedent dominate the open Great League with high bulk and Body Slam spam. Lickitung with Body Slam and Power Whip is a long-standing Ultra League staple, while Galarian-Slowking-tier matchups push it to top 50 PvPoke usage. Stantler with Wild Charge surprises Water and Flying picks. In Master League, Snorlax with Yawn → Body Slam and Slaking with Yawn → Hyper Beam appear in budget builds, but they get outpaced by legendaries. Furret and Lopunny see fringe Little Cup play. Normal types resist nothing and are immune to Ghost — a useful trait against Giratina, Gengar, and Origin Forme Dialga’s Shadow Ball. They are weak only to Fighting (1.6× damage), making counters predictable: Lucario, Conkeldurr, Machamp, and Shadow Hariyama destroy Normal attackers in seconds. When using Normal types offensively, remember that Normal moves hit nothing super-effectively, so STAB is purely a damage multiplier rather than a coverage tool. Most Normal Pokemon are paired with secondary typings (Flying, Fairy, Psychic, Ground) that determine their actual battlefield role. The pure Normal slot is best reserved for PvP bulk, Master League closers, and Gym defense duty rather than raid offense.
Normal-type Community Days have produced some of the most beloved meta picks in the game: Slakoth → Slaking introduced Yawn (later globally available), Snorlax received Body Slam as a CD-exclusive in 2018, Stantler evolved into Wyrdeer with Psyshield Bash, and Litten-line evolutions added the Paldean Fire/Normal Skeledirge variant indirectly. Smeargle remains a curiosity — it can sketch any move from a partner Pokemon during photobombs, occasionally enabling unique gym-defending sets. Eevee with Last Resort (a CD-exclusive charged move) is the cornerstone of Eeveelution viability. Mega Audino and Mega Lopunny serve as flexible Mega Energy investments thanks to their dual typings.
